The 3rd of my Northern Irish Legend Portraits is Belfast Born, Football Great George Best from both N.Ireland and Manchester United football fame.
“George Best (22 May 1946 – 25 November 2005) was a Northern Irish professional footballer who played as a winger, spending most of his club career at Manchester United. A highly skilful dribbler, Best is regarded as one of the best players in the history of the sport. He was named European Footballer of the year in 1968 and came fifth in the FIFA Player of the Century vote."

‘GEORGE’, measuring 122cm x 81cm this piece was unreal to create. From the start I shared the post with members of the Best family and to have them share my stories and offer me words of support was so motivating.
George Best is regarded as one of NIs Greatest Legends. When you think of NI he is undoubtedly one of the first people that springs to mind. This can be seen by the fact our Airport is suitably named after George as ‘Best City Airport’. The piece itself had a couple of modifications from the reference. I wanted the background black and I wanted his face slightly brighter. From previous work I know this really sets the piece off. The shirt I tried to recreate the material by using a similar material to dab on a pattern. There is a lot of freestyle in there and artistic license, but I am happy with the outcome.
